The CultAWARD honours what accompanies a society across generations: things, works and people that a community swears by. Not a prize for the moment, but an award for what lasts.

The founding year

CultAWARD · Class of 2027

The founding year

One hundred and eleven nominations on three levels open the first year: forty from Bamberg, fifty from Germany, twenty-one from around the world. Brands and machines, films and songs, people, places and rituals: every nomination is researched, reasoned and captured in a tribute worth reading twice.

CultAWARD · The Cult Canon

How to recognise a cult.

A cult is neither a trend nor a bestseller. It is born when a community makes something its own, defends it, quotes it and passes it on. Seven criteria decide: time, community, ritual, language, character, memory and impact.

An AI reads and assesses, three juries of seven people each make the nominations, and the public crowns the Cult of the Year.

The poster returns.

The first CultAWARD poster was created in 2010. For the founding class it returns: with Monique, today’s trophy, in front of a wall of cult motifs beneath a sky full of stars.

Behind it lies a story that begins with a rusty bicycle and a woman reaching for the star.

The Cult Tour

The CultAWARD comes to the honourees, not the other way round. With a cult vehicle and a camera crew, it travels through four regions and delivers certificate and trophy where the cult is at home.

Monique in porcelain: the figure entirely in white, earth and star in gold

CultAWARD · The trophy

Monique in porcelain.

The CultAWARD trophy is golden. Her sister is made of fine porcelain: the figure entirely in white, the earth and the star in gold. A design for an edition that unites the quiet and the radiant in a single form.
